{"id":768,"date":"2009-06-13T17:50:33","date_gmt":"2009-06-13T23:50:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/?p=768"},"modified":"2009-06-13T17:50:33","modified_gmt":"2009-06-13T23:50:33","slug":"portland-to-adelaide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/2009\/06\/13\/portland-to-adelaide\/","title":{"rendered":"Portland to Adelaide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Portland is a nice little town perched in a very protected bay.\u00a0 We found a campsite got checked in and then headed back out on the road to a nearby lighthouse.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0242.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-770\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0242.jpg\" alt=\"img_0242\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was a little cafe at the light house we planned on having a cup of tea at, but we ended up having lunch instead.\u00a0 After eating we found a hiking trail to &#8220;the enchanted forest&#8221;.\u00a0 This trail headed right off the road towards the ocean which wasn&#8217;t too far away.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0246.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-771\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0246.jpg\" alt=\"img_0246\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0248.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-772\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0248.jpg\" alt=\"img_0248\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0252.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-773\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0252.jpg\" alt=\"img_0252\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The trail dropped of quickly and we soon found ourselves at the &#8220;enchanted forest&#8221;\u00a0 This was part of &#8220;The Great Southwest Walk&#8221; which is a 250 K hiking trail along the coast.\u00a0 Looks like it be a lot of fun to do if you had the time.\u00a0 Out trek took us down even closer to the ocean to a place called &#8220;Flat Rock&#8221;\u00a0 I was expecting this to be on the hillside, but it was actually in the water.\u00a0 Very cool area.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0264.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-774\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0264.jpg\" alt=\"img_0264\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After our hike we went back to the campsite and did a little walking around town.\u00a0 Erin is continuing her quest for a sweatshirt.\u00a0 Still no luck.<\/p>\n<p>While walking through town we found a sign to a fur seal viewing area.\u00a0 So we hopped back in the car and drove about 15k around another bay to another small community.\u00a0 From there we hopped on a trail along the coast line leading out to the seal viewing area.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0271.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-775\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0271.jpg\" alt=\"img_0271\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0275.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-776\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0275.jpg\" alt=\"img_0275\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0295.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-780\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0295.jpg\" alt=\"img_0295\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was a beautiful hike.\u00a0 Along the trail we encountered a &#8220;herd&#8221; ? of kangaroos.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0284.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-777\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0284.jpg\" alt=\"img_0284\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0287.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-778\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0287.jpg\" alt=\"img_0287\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They checked us out and headed off to the side of the trail a ways.\u00a0 One of them hopped over a nearby fence with ease.\u00a0 Its amazing how high they can jump.<\/p>\n<p>[QUICKTIME http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/kangas.mov 640 500]<\/p>\n<p>We continued down the trail until we reached the viewing area about 50 meters above the rocks below.\u00a0 There were a few lazy seals laying down there.\u00a0 Not as close as I&#8217;ve been in the bering strait but still pretty cool.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0290.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-779\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0290.jpg\" alt=\"img_0290\" width=\"640\" height=\"417\" \/><\/a>The sun was beginning to fade as we headed back to our car.\u00a0 When we got there we continued a few Kilometers down the road to a &#8220;blowhole&#8221; and &#8220;petrified forest&#8221;\u00a0 I put both in quotes because I don&#8217;t think either were really what they claimed.\u00a0 There was a sign stating that the petrified forest was not really an old forest, but rock formations instead.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0306.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-782\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0306.jpg\" alt=\"img_0306\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0305.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-781\" src=\"http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/img_0305.jpg\" alt=\"img_0305\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The blowhole just appeared to be waves crashing on the rocks.\u00a0 You can be the judge.\u00a0 Here is a little video of the spot.<\/p>\n<p>[QUICKTIME http:\/\/bbryson.com\/bill\/files\/2009\/06\/blowhole.mov 640 500]<\/p>\n<p>After our night in Portland we started the long drive to Adelaide.\u00a0 A couple hours into the journey we stopped at Mt.
