There were trips home from the North, traveling abroad, new jobs to prepare for,  U-Hauls to unpack, a sister&#8217;s wedding&#8230; but this summer&#8217;s start has been different. This summer I dropped Bill off in the Boundary Waters on my first day of vacation, and I came home to an empty schedule.<\/p>\n<p>The past few days have reminded me of how I used to struggle with the first days of vacation when I was younger &#8211; when I was &#8220;stuck&#8221; at the end of Raps Road without a license. I remember wandering over to Gram&#8217;s house and whining to her, &#8220;I&#8217;m bored!&#8221; And she would be quick to tell me how there was no possible way I could be bored out here. Once, she even sat down and wrote a list of all the things I could keep busy with. She was right; there is plenty of fun to be had during the summer months.<\/p>\n<p>So, that&#8217;s my goal this summer. Instead of worrying about how quickly these weeks are going to fly by, I&#8217;m going to work to appreciate the endless possibilities that summer brings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the past 6 years I&#8217;ve had something big to transition me out of the school year and into vacation.
