I grabbed this new book – definitely chick-lit – before heading to the cafe part of the store. I was a bit disappointed to find that it’s past the pumpkin spice latte season, but I decided to be adventurous and try the new toasted marshmallow mocha. It was fine, not quite what I’d hoped for, but warm and fragrant. After deciding my beverage was drinkable, I opened up my new book and began to read.

This is when I had the realization that I missed this very act. It took a long time to get comfortable going out to dinner by myself, going to the theater by myself, and just BEING by myself while I consulted for SFA. But somewhere along the way I got used to it, and today I realized that I actually ENJOYED it.

Don’t get me wrong… that job was not right for me at this part of my life. Maybe again some day, but certainly not now. I have no regrets about returning to the classroom. I also couldn’t be happier to have more time with Bill, my sisters, parents and grandparents; I miss them all terribly when we’re apart. I guess it just came as a surprise to realize how comfortable I became on my own.

I started my morning at Barnes & Noble knowing I could spend hours in that store and never get bored.
