Ski Bunny

Okay – so maybe this title doesn’t quite describe me, but after today I’m one step closer. :-)Today my team got our 120 sixth graders onto buses and head out to Ski Gull, the local ski hill. I’ve never down hill skied, and quite honestly I wasn’t very excited about making my debut in front of my students. It turned out, however, to probably be the BEST way to learn. My kids cheered me on, and the instructors were awesome. (However – I don’t know how many times I had to get the darn, “Oh, you’re not a 6th grader?” Grrr.)

It didn’t take long to get ready for the bunny hill, although I wasn’t as fast as many of my students. Soon, though, we graduated from the tow rope to the ski lift and my group was off. I am so proud of our students. They were great to each other – constantly encouraging one another and reminding us all that we were all going to fall. Today, it seemed, it didn’t matter whether you were one of the “cool” kids or not – everyone worked so well!

I suppose I should mention that we had one student break a leg and another sprain an ankle. Ouch! So I’ll be praying for their speedy recoveries. (They’re 2 great kids!)

I suppose, now, that skiing will be on my list of things to try again.

What a fun trip! We’re taking our kids to the Science Museum and Ordaway in February.

Musical season is in full swing, so I’m crazy busy. We’re doing “Oklahoma!” this year, and it is shaping up to be a great show.

Glad to hear YOU didn’t end up with any broken bones.

    Love,

    Melissa

I can’t ski……the last time I did was when I was in 6th grade. And my teacher at the time (who shall remain nameless), video taped us. She fell with the video camera and all we saw was snow, sky, snow, sky. It was rather funny. But I’m glad you had fun…..and I too wish your students a speedy recovery!!! Love you!

I MIGHT be able to try going skiing with you sometime… but just you- and I guess lo could come too, so we could all make fools of ourselves. However- no boys allowed.

Glad you had so much fun. Did you decide what you are doing for the weekend?

    Love you

fyi…i can’t do either on the slope…but I do enjoy the hot chocolate in the lodge!

Sounds like a great time, Ersy! Isn’t it nice to see people working together and not tearing each other apart? I’d love to see all three of my daughters on the slopes – I’ll just watch…..

The good news about kids and breaks is they’re more resilient so they’ll heal quicker!

On another note….when are you guys coming up?

    Love you lots and lots,

    Mom

I left a comment earlier but I guess it didn’t work for whatever reason. Anyway, I’m glad you had so much support from your students for your first time downhill skiing! That’s wonderful 🙂
