Welcome Spring

It’s been a fast couple of weeks. I am happy to have my hubby back after his trip North last week. We made sure to hop in the small boat and get out on the lake the evening he got back. The next day, Bill and my dad got the big boat all ready and into the lake. I can’t remember another year that we’ve been out enjoying Vermilion so early. I love it!

I also got in some great time with my mom and my Grandpa Poderzay. We visited up in Tower last weekend, and mom came up to April’s for a girls breakfast yesterday. (I didn’t get a great picture either time, unfortunately, but this one’s kinda cute.)

I can’t help but stop and think about how much has changed in such a short amount of time. A year ago, we were having baby showers and awaiting the arrival of two little ones. Now we’re watching those babies grow into their personalities, and I can’t imagine a time without them.

Both of my grandmas were buried this week. There are still many days I can’t wrap my head around the way things have changed. This winter was a tough one for a lot of people – for a lot of reasons. Around here things seem to be feeling okay. I’m so thankful for this beautiful weather and a renewed sense of life.

This week promises to be just as busy – much to enjoy!

Easter and Ice Out

We had a lovely Easter. My family celebrated at my aunt and uncle’s with my more-like-a-sister cousin, Stacy. Auntie Sharon had a feast prepared. It was a great afternoon… we were just missing my hubby who’s celebrating the day in various airports across the country.

I went and saw Grandpa Aune after our family dinner. He’s doing pretty good, and it always makes my heart happy to visit with him. Then I headed home to a sun-filled, but otherwise empty house. It was quiet, and I was sooooo stuffed full, it felt good to just be a slug. Luckily, my dad came home and threw the fishing boat in. We went for a nice little ride, and now I’m feeling like the day is complete. I think I’ll find some chick flick to watch and kick back for the night.

Many blessings to each of you this Easter Day!

Break Begins!

Bill and I decided on a quick get-a-way to the North Shore on the first days of our long weekend. We stayed at a quaint little spot right on the lake. Got in some nice little hikes. Ate a fancy dinner. Relaxed. We had gorgeous weather – it was perfect.

This afternoon we drove back through Tower and stopped to visit with Grandpa P. Mom, April, and Sawyer were there – that’s always fun. I decided to hop in Ape’s car and head to Virginia while Bill headed back to Cook to finish up some homework. After a quick run through Target we headed back to hang out at Ape and Jesse’s for a while. Luckily we were there long enough to see my precious Kate. When we finally made it home, Dad had tasty fajitas waiting for us. (There was also the wonderful surprise of an ice-free bay!)

Bill’s still hard at work on his assignments, but he took a break so we could jump in the canoe to rescue the neighbor’s dock. Here’s a pic of my guy paddling their dock back over to the point. It was all I could do to keep the canoe heading in the right direction – there’s a bit of wind out there.

Heartwarming

Every day I break from my 5th graders and teach 90 minutes of reading to my little group of 1st graders. It is so different than the rest of my day. It’s been really rewarding to watch this group transform from knowing only a few letters and sounds to becoming full-fledged readers!

It certainly hasn’t been easy, as I don’t consider myself to be a “natural” with the little ones. To me it’s far more challenging to work with the primary grades. But I’m thankful for how they change-up my days. Especially when they bring me little gifts like this card I received today. 🙂

Random

This week went quickly. My sweet Kate stayed over one night.  She is so darn cute. The picture above shows a little morning play time before we headed off for work.

The weather has been gorgeous. I just love the light in the morning.

Bill and I had a couple evenings out. Today we headed up to Tower to visit my mom and grandpa. Then it was back home for a nap. I love naps.

My friend and teaching neighbor, Amanda, had her baby girl yesterday. I am so excited for her and her whole family!

Oh, yes, girl scout cookies have started rolling in, and I seem to have forgotten how many I ordered.

This post is awfully random – a little like my life these days.

The Man Loves Ice Cream Cake

Bill doesn’t need an excuse to pick up a DQ cake, but he always comes up with one anyway. Tonight’s was in celebration of the U.S. Olympic Hockey team.

Cuddle Bug

Sawyer would definitely prefer to be wrestling around than sitting still. So, it was fun to get to snuggle with him before bed time this weekend when I stayed there.
