Katie On The Road Again

Bill, Katie, and I left for Anchorage last Saturday to get Katie’s ducks in a row for her flight out to St. Michael. At this point 9 boxes were making their way to St. Michael filled with books, clothes, sheets/towels, dishes and other misc. items she might need.

The Anchorage trip was to purchase bulk food items and last minute shopping items she still needed before departure.

Thank goodness for friends! Once again we based out of Chris and Robin’s place while we took care of our shopping lists.

We took time out for church Sunday morning. When we came back Chris shared a cool book making project that Katie and I are both excited to try out this year.

We had serious shopping to do at Costco.

Katie was mortified at buying so much stuff! Bill was great crunching numbers and helping her pick the best buys.

Tundra tennis shoes, otherwise known as LaCross Alpha Burleys, are the ticket in the bush. This snappy footwear is great for walking through brush on the tundra whether wet or dry. Once again, Kats hates spending the money…..

We shipped out 6 more boxes of food, paper products and other misc. items. It looked pretty impressive in Chris and Robin’s basement before things got stuffed in the tubs.

Unfortunately the first batch of tubs were too big. We had to return them for a smaller size that we could do a better job of staying under the 70 pound limit.

Thanks to tips from Bill 3 we had a pretty good system down for packing the tubs. We borrowed Chris’s dremel tool to drill holes in the tops and bottoms of the tubs. Once Bill and Katie got the boxes packed and addressed, I proceeded to drill the holes. Bill took them to the post office, but didn’t put the zip ties in the holes to fasten them down until we knew they were under the 70 pound limit. It worked slick.

We had Katie out to the airport in plenty of time to make her connection.

After hugs we left Katie to do our own bulk shopping. It was fun helping her prepare for the next chapter of her life adventure.
